Someone Wants To Listen To You
I was watching a Youtube video before writing this.
It was a video of Ethan Hawke being interviewed for a film festival, talking about one of his best pictures to date, Before Sunrise.
I was planning to watch the video and write a really long post, but I ended up just listening to Ethan Hawke speaking for a couple of minutes, talking about his experiences during shooting Before Sunrise and his conversations with Julie Delpy. And before I realized it, it was already too late to write a full post.
But something about Ethan Hawke talking captivated me. There was just something about the inflection of his voice, the cadence of his conversation, that made me just want to listen to him for hours.
For the best artists, whether that be actors, or directors, or writers, or podcasters, these talents are natural. They’re used to hundreds, if not thousands of people, gravitating to their voices, listening to them speak about entirely random topics or stories of their lives.
But in reality, there’s someone out there for all of us. Someone who is willing to listen to our dumb stories about how we slipped on some stairs, or our frustration at a particularly slow car today. There’s someone out there who will listen to your mundane stories and your shower thoughts, with eager eyes and open minds.
It doesn’t even have to be one specific partner. It can be a friend, or a sibling, or a random stranger on the internet.
As what Ethan Hawke said himself:
It’s a very hard thing for us to comprehend that we are interesting, we have something to say, we are valuable, every one of us.
Someone is out there who will be there to listen to every story you have to tell.
All that’s left now is for you to tell it.
