Nothing Lasts Forever — And That’s Good

Watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind for why forgetting is good/bad

Remember Tide Pods? You know, that massive trend that made the whole world go crazy because kids and teenagers were eating detergent?

Or remember 2012? You know, that time where everyone couldn’t stop talking about the apocalypse and the hype was so high that they made a movie about it (which, if I’m being honest, was pretty entertaining).

Remember Hot Chelle Rae? Remember Es Kepal Milo? Remember Glee? Remember Yeezys? Remember Path? Remember Pou? I could go on with an endless list of things that was once a very important part of our collective memory.

But the most important thing about all of these things I just mentioned is that none of them really matter now.

I’ve written about how emotions are temporary before — but this time, I just want to highlight the temporary nature of everything we experience in our lives.

Sometimes we have moments that are so depressing that we think that we’ll never bounce back from those moments — but we do.

Other times, we have experiences that we hope will never end — but they do as well.

Nothing lasts forever, and maybe that’s not such a bad thing. The sadness will dissipate, the fun times will end, but life will always go on, and we’ll have more sad days, and more good times, and that will go on and on.

For the sad moments, the moments where we feel humiliated and embarrassed, you can find reassurance in the fact that all people will forget it ever happened — as they forgot about so many other things in the past.

For the good times, when we realize that all things must come to an end, we learn to appreciate what’s happening in the moment more, rather than dreading the end.

And in the end, maybe that’s just a more realistic and a simpler way to approach life, and all the temporary things that happen during life.

This is Day 10 of my 100 Words a Day project.
