I Wish We Talked More.

About anything.

I wish we talked more about life, and that it’s not always going to be okay.

I wish we talked more about how you don’t always get what you want — and even though that’s okay, rejection is fine, it’s normal, it doesn’t mean you won’t feel intense emotions of pain and dejection.

I wish we talked more about how separation is inevitable, and how we can’t hold on to people forever. I wish I could tell you that even the people you want to hold on to the most will sometimes not stay.

I wish we talked more about how most of us will go through life achieving nothing more than what is necessary for survival, how most of us will be forgotten by history.

I wish we talked more about how death is a very scary concept, that in a universe with nearly 8 billion people, our life and death will be nothing but a speck on the infinite expanse of our universe.

I wish we talked more about how life’s greatest and happiest moments are so emotionally intense, yet we only realize how happy they made us when we look back on them.

I wish we talked more about how numbers don’t matter — how a million followers does not make you happier than 100 followers, how a thousand likes does not mean a lot in real life, how the pursuit for validation is a futile and fruitless pursuit.

I wish we talked more about how a lot of us are not okay and that is both okay and not okay at the same time.

I wish we talked more about how most college graduates don’t really know where they’re going with their life and they herd into any office that have their doors open without any consideration for what they want to do with their life if they had a choice.

I wish we talked more about how all of the news on the media that is constantly fed into our minds often distracts us from issues that are most important.

I wish we talked more about how information goes by us so fast now that we barely have time to latch on to the information that matters before it’s swept away, never to be talked about again until it appears on a “do you remember” Twitter thread.

I wish we talked more, about heavy questions as to why we’re alive, what our lives mean, where do we go when we die.

I wish we talked more, about the whimsical, about why Doritos are the best chips in the world, why Indonesians drink coffee at night, why Frank Ocean chose to exist in this timeline and version of the universe.

I wish we talked more so that I don’t have to write a 1000 word essay every time my mind buzzes uncontrollably.

I wish we talked more so that I don’t die with all of these thoughts in my head.

I wish we talked more.
