13. Pain is temporary.

Remember the first time you got a cut?

I don’t. And you probably don’t either.

A lot of things make us hurt. A punch, a kick, a death, a loss. But all pain, physical or psychological, subsides.

It may last days, months, or even years, but it won’t last forever.

So even if basic human instinct tells you to always avoid pain, you have to fight that instinct. People don’t get to success by taking the safe route and avoiding hard work. They get there by throwing themselves into the fire — sacrificing everything that doesn’t matter and working their ass off.

This isn’t just about business. Ask anyone in any field — academics, sports, gaming, debating, and they’ll all tell you how they gave up their free time to work. How they missed out on parties and meetups for months to hunker down and practice.

So you choose: A life of safe choices and no excellence, or 2 years of working hard and eating s*** then a lifetime of success.
